Facility:Miami Metrozoo
Description:Metrozoo houses more than 700 wild animals in a cageless environment. Large, open-air exhibits provide the ideal setting in which visitors can experience some of the world's most beautiful and endangered wildlife. With nearly 300 developed acres on a 740-acre parcel of land, Metrozoo is the only zoo in the continental United States located in a subtropical climate.

Special exhibits include Asian River Life where visitors walk among the waterfalls, tropical mist, and exotic sounds of wild Asia, among Asian River Otters, Clouded Leopards, Asian Water Monitors, and primitive Muntjac Deer. The Falcon Batchelor Komodo Dragon Encounter exhibits a pair of the largest, most powerful lizards on earth from the island of Komodo. These primitive looking beasts, the national treasure of Indonesia, reach nearly 10 feet long and weigh up to 300 pounds.

Metrozoo does more than simply display animals...it is an integral part of an ever-growing global effort to understand, preserve and propagate the world's rare and endangered wildlife.

This is a great zoo where animals can be viewed in their habitats. It is pricey. It can take the whole day to get through. Renting the tandem bicycles is very helpful though expensive. There is a playground and a water playground should the kids need a break. They have several places to purchase food and lots of picnic tables. It can get quite hot during the summer and the animals can get a little lethargic when it's hot. Best enjoyed during cooler months!

They have a great program for home-School. The teachers are great. Animals are not kept in cages.
Also about two years ago they just made a water park. Which is great for Miami

It is an amazing zoo. It is a really large place with plenty to see. It took my family almost 3 hrs to walk the whole place. We go all the time. Tey are adding new sites to it.
