Facility:Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center
Description:If you don't have the time to hit the Everglades, or you've got kids too young to appreciate such an extensive outing, get a small slice of natural Florida on this trip. Families with young children should start in the hands-on exhibit room, where they can see fish tanks and touch live shellfish and loads of shells, sponges and seeds. Kids of all ages can stroll (you can request a free guide) on the various trails out back (some more stroller-friendly than others). Though offered only on occasional weekends, the center sponsors a spectacular "Seagrass Adventure," where, for an extra fee, families with kids 5 and older spend a few hours wading in the water with a naturalist, scooping up shrimp, starfish, and sea urchins to examine.
