One of the city's most recognizable landmarks, this striking marble monument anchors the Mall's western end. "In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever." Beneath these words, the 16th President of the United States -the Great Emancipator and preserver of the nation during the Civil War - sits immortalized in marble. As an enduring symbol of Freedom, the Lincoln Memorial attracts anyone who seeks inspiration and hope. |

 | JE, Co-op Member | The Memorial is a great field trip. Stop at the ranger booth, prior to climbing the stairs, and get the info so that kids can participate in the Junior Ranger Program, sponsored by the Park Service. Lots of fun learning the history. |

The size, the quotes, the view from the steps...from the massiveness of Lincoln's presence to the small placard that marks where Martin Luther King, Jr spoke to the crowds. I cannot recommend this experience more. |
